Memorial Field variance request approved
On Jan. 30, the Glen Ellyn Village Board unanimously approved the Memorial Field variance requests for the following site improvements:
- Field lighting, which includes six light poles (two 60’ poles and four 70’ poles) with shielded light fixtures
- Third base sideline sidewalk/ramp
- North side bleachers with improved handicap accessibility (Bleacher capacity of 240)
- Masonry fence along the north side of the field
- Batting cage renovations
- Glenbard District 87 responded to residents’ concerns and adjusted the usage request to the Glen Ellyn Plan Commission, based on community feedback, as follows:
- No third-party rentals (light use)
- No summer light use (June 1 – Aug. 14)
- No weekend light use
- No winter light use
- No morning light use prior to school
- No light use after 9 p.m.
- Create an advisory group consisting of Glenbard West administration, village representative and neighbors to review the use of lights
- Glenbard District 87 will hold a public hearing on Feb. 27. The time and location of the hearing will be publicized.
- Launch community fund raising effort related to lights at Memorial Field. The lights will be 100% funded by community contributions.

- 4/2012 District 87 Board discussion/authorization to bid
- If District 87 Board of Education approves:
- 5/23/2012 Bid documents 100% complete, issued
- 6/13/2012 Bid opening
- 6/25/2012 District 87 Board discussion
- 7/9/2012 District 87 Board approval of construction contract
- 7/13/2012 Construction starts
- 8/17/2012 Substantial completion
- 8/31/2012 Final Completion – Glenbard West use for 2012-2013 year
